How it works

Pure alcohol weighs 0.789 g per ml and has 7 calories a gram. Beer, wine and mixers add carbs on top (USDA FoodData Central values).

A UK unit is 10 ml of pure alcohol. A US standard drink is 14 g. See the UK Chief Medical Officers’ and the US Dietary Guidelines’ advice for limits.
